Review and Refresh your website

Creating a new website can be both exciting and stressful. However, once you’ve gone live with your website it can get forgotten about and you assume that it’s doing its job of promoting your services or products and driving traffic to your phone or inbox. It is the main showcase for your business though, to promote you to your clients, so it’s incredibly important not to forget about it. Even if you’re active on one of the many social media platforms, they cannot reflect as much of your business as a website can.

Here are 10 reasons why you should regularly review and refresh your website:

1. To keep your content feeling fresh

The last thing you want is for someone to think that your website looks stale and doesn’t change with the times. So, review your photos or copy to make sure they accurately reflect any developments in your business or field of work.

2. Google likes updates

By regularly updating your website, you’re encouraging Google to pick up on these changes as opposed to others whose websites remain static.

3. To boost SEO performance

It’s worthwhile reviewing your key SEO words regularly to ensure you include the words and phrases that your ideal clients are searching for.

4. To reflect changing customer needs

The needs of your customers change and develop over time, and it’s important to have this reflected in your business copy and images.

5. To reflect changing business offerings

Make sure you emphasise any changes to your business, whether you’re:

changing your business focus
trialling a new route to market or niche offering
offering additional products or services
ceasing to sell a product or service

6. To show your customers that you care about your website

If you have repeat customers who regularly visit your website, it’s good practice for them to have new copy to read or new photos and images to look at to keep them interested and to remind them that your website is important to you too. It is a marketing tool to sell your business.

7. To show off new images

If you have been to any events, fairs, networking, or have had any professional headshots or other photographs taken to promote your business, then consider using these on your website as well as your social media. They’re a great way to keep your website looking fresh.

8. To review your rates and T&Cs

It’s good practice to make sure you’re still happy with the rates you charge. Whether you offer a service or sell a product you may want to increase your rates as you gain experience or to reflect economic factors.

9. To ensure all your marketing is consistent

If you make any changes to any of your marketing platforms – social media, website, online or physical shop, branding, business cards, or promotional literature – then make sure to reflect this change and be consistent across every platform.

10. To promote new blogs

It’s great to have new blog content on your website, as writing a blog is a great way of promoting your knowledge to your ideal customers and encouraging your SEO performance. An added bonus is that you can use these blogs to create great social media content too, by breaking them down into smaller chunks for easy digestion.

Reviewing and refreshing your website is also a great way to remind yourself of what you’re offering your customers and why you’re doing what you do. Make a point of adding an action into your diary or calendar every couple of months to review and refresh, even if once you’ve reviewed it you don’t think you need to make any changes.

If you don’t feel you have the time to spare to do this, then consider outsourcing it. Remember that delegating is one of the most efficient forms of business management and ensures you can concentrate on the parts of your business that are most important to you.
